The second series of BBC drama Sherwood is to be premiered at a red carpet event.

Broadway Cinema in Nottingham will host a screening of the first episode on 19 August along with a panel discussion and Q&A with series creator James Graham and cast members.

Fans of the show, which is set in Nottinghamshire, have been invited to apply for free tickets.

The cast for the new series includes David Morrissey, Lesley Manville, Robert Lindsay, David Harewood and Perry Fitzpatrick.

Set in the present day, the new series introduces two new families to the drama.

Meanwhile, a newly-appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is passionately fighting against a proposed new mine for the area, which brings the promise of much-needed jobs, but also unwelcome reminders of past problems.

Mr Graham said: "The response to the first series of Sherwood meant the world to me, as a story set in my home town and inspired by the people, voices and experiences I grew up with.

"We are not resting on our laurels and know that a second series has to come back even stronger."

Tickets are available through the BBC Shows and Tours website until 9 August and will be allocated through a ballot.

The new series will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
