Heavy rain floods Grade I listed church

The church which sits on a hill has been repeatedly flooded by water streaming down a path through the graveyard

A Grade I listed church has been flooded for the second time in four months.
A clean-up operation had only just finished at St John the Baptist at Edlingham in Northumberland following a similar incident at Christmas which caused the cancellation of the carol concert.
There have been no services at the 11th Century building this year.
Heavy rain also prompted a flood alert from the Environment Agency for Coastal Rivers in North Northumberland, which was later lifted, external.

Sandbags have been placed at the entrance to the churchyard and the doorway of the building to prevent more water getting in

The church had just been cleaned and dried out after a similar flood at Christmas

The carpets and kneelers have been lifted off the floor to protect them

The 11th century church, next to Edlingham castle is popular with visitors
