Man pleads guilty to murdering woman found dead after house fire

A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a woman who was found after a house fire in Dublin almost three years ago.

George Turner, 55, from Fairview Avenue in the city, was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court on Monday.

He will be sentenced on Friday.

Emma McCrory, a mother-of-two in her 40s, was found dead at her home on Howth Road, Clontarf, on 15 December 2022.

Turner was charged with murder in March 2023.

RTÉ reports that at Dublin District Court, his solicitor had requested a psychiatric assessment for his client, stating that he had a history of mental illness.

He was remanded in custody before Monday's guilty plea and faces a mandatory life sentence.
