Man charged with attempted murder over prison attack

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after an alleged hammer attack in prison.

Damien Bendall, formerly of Killamarsh, is accused of attacking a fellow prisoner at HMP Frankland, in Durham, on 10 May 2024.

The 35-year-old attended Teesside Crown Court on 6 March but did not enter a plea.

He is due to appear next at the same court on 21 May.
