A children's paddling pool has been shut in the middle of the school holidays following an unauthorised encampment.

Police were called to Fleming Park in Eastleigh, Hampshire, on Tuesday afternoon, where travellers had driven about 12 vehicles and 12 caravans onto the site.

The pool was closed as a "safety precaution", according to Eastleigh Borough Council.

Hampshire Constabulary said it was working to seek a "suitable resolution".

Officers have attended the site multiple times since the travellers arrived.

The council also said it had visited the park to ask the occupants to leave, and was "monitoring the situation".

Another unauthorised encampment previously vacated the site on 17 June, police confirmed.
