A boy accused of murdering an 80-year-old man as he walked his dog in a park said he hated what he had done and felt his case was "evil", a murder trial has been told.
Bhim Kohli died the day after he was assaulted in Franklin Park, yards from his home in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, on 1 September last year.
A 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, who cannot be named because of their ages, are on trial at Leicester Crown Court accused of killing him.
On Tuesday, jurors were read a letter the boy sent to a woman who had worked with him at a residential unit where he was being looked after at the end of October last year.
Prosecutors said the boy, who denies murdering Mr Kohli, wrote: "I accept I did it and I am doing time.
"I kinda just needed anger etc releasing."
Jurors heard the boy told the woman he hated what he had done, adding: "I regret it so much. I have flashbacks of that day and it just upsets me.
"I just want my freedom or even to go back and not do it.
"I feel like my case is evil. I ain't that type of person.
"I feel like I have let my mum down so much. I am nervous, well scared and worried."

Neither defendant can be named because of their ages
The court previously heard Mr Kohli was racially abused before he was slapped in the face with a shoe by the boy, who was 14 at the time.
The boy denies murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.
Prosecutors said the girl, 12 at the time, laughed as she filmed the attack on her phone.
She denies a charge of manslaughter.
On Tuesday, the prosecution also played the jury a video clip in which the girl allegedly laughed as she filmed a separate victim being chased across grassland and racially abused.
The clip recovered from the girl's iCloud account, filmed on an unknown date before August 3 last year, showed the unidentified victim being hit from behind, having something thrown over him and then running away as he was racially abused.
The trial continues.
