Consultation begins over new play area plan

If approved, construction of the play area would begin later this year

Public views are being sought over plans to transform part of a popular park into a play area.
Birmingham City Council is seeking residents' views on plans for Lickey Hills Country Park, which would see a "fully inclusive" play area built next to the Visitors' Centre.
A consultation has been launched and details potential for other features, such as an outdoor gym and a double zip-wire.
If the scheme is approved, the existing play area would be removed and the site turned into a wildlife/wetland area.
"The existing play area is no longer fit for purpose and its location suffers from regular flooding and poor accessibility," the consultation document states.
"A brand new, all-age, fully inclusive play area is being designed to be located next to the visitor centre."
Additional opportunities for recreation, as well as a new outdoor gym facility, are proposed as part of future phases of work when funding becomes available, plans show.
The council said the detailed design of the play area would be finalised once it had completed the consultation.
Construction is planned to begin in the summer, with the new play area to be completed and open by the autumn.
People can submit their views until 14 March, external.
