New hospital build not expected until at least 2037

Construction on a new hospital in Basingstoke is not expected to begin until between 2037 and 2039.
Hampshire hospitals are expected to receive at least £2bn of funding as part of the Government's New Hospital Programme, but are part of the third wave of the scheme.
A new hospital is currently planned for north and mid Hampshire, as is a major refurbishment at Winchester.
Labour's programme is a revamped version of the previous government's commitment to deliver 40 new hospitals by 2030.
It said that was "behind schedule, unfunded and therefore undeliverable".
The new Basingstoke hospital would cost between £700m and £900m.
The refurbishments at Winchester include providing specialist and emergency care including maternity services.
Dr Paul Harvey, the leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, said the new hospital was "critical" and residents "just can't wait that long".
"We will be doing all we can to make the case for the government to bring the delivery of the new hospital forward sooner," he said.
"We know that access to health services is a major issue for so many people and so we will stand by our residents and all the staff working in our NHS who need the hospital to be delivered as soon as possible."
'Balanced portfolio'
The new £15bn plan is taking place over consecutive five-year waves, starting this year.
The government said hospitals in later waves would be "supported on their development and early construction work before then, to ensure that they are ready for main construction".
Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting called it a "credible plan and timeline".
He said the different waves would ensure a "balanced portfolio of hospital schemes at different development stages being delivered now and into the future".
Responding to the national announcement, interim chief executive of NHS Providers Saffron Cordery said, despite the "hugely welcome cash injection", many faced "even longer delays getting desperately needed new hospitals".

There are some hospitals across the country that have started schemes which have now stopped, because Labour said it was not sure the money was available since coming into office.
Among them was the Hampshire Hospitals plan to build a new hospital on the M3.
Wes Streeting has been speaking in the House of Commons this afternoon and he was accused by Winchester MP Danny Chambers of burying bad news on a day when the President of America is having his inauguration.
He rejected that.
