A bride-to-be from the Netherlands has told of her "shock" after her boyfriend proposed at a bridge dedicated to Black Sabbath in the band's home city of Birmingham.

Sam Bok, 24, and her now-fiance Anton Greve, 23, are both heavy metal super fans, and took a one-day trip to the city while on holiday in London last month.

Birmingham is widely considered the home of the genre, but Ms Bok still could not believe it when her partner got down on one knee at the Black Sabbath Bridge.

"It sounds like a cliche but it was the happiest day of my life so far," Ms Bok said.

Their engagement has even been brought to the attention of Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, who liked their post on Instagram and caused it to go viral.

"It really exploded," Ms Bok added. "I didn't expect it because I have like 2,000 followers.

"It went crazy and people started following. It was pretty awesome and felt like some kind of blessing from the Osbourne family."

Birmingham has seen a huge rise in the number of Black Sabbath-related visitors this year.

The band's iconic frontman Ozzy Osbourne died in July at the age of 76.

It came less than three weeks after a star-studded farewell concert in the city.

Ms Bok, who works for a Dutch concert promoter, said she had wanted to visit for a long time.

The pair went to the Ozzy exhibition at Birmingham's Museum & Art Gallery as well as the historic Crown pub, where Black Sabbath played their first gig.

But none of that could prepare her for the moment of the proposal.

"I didn't see it coming at all," she said. "I was in shock.

"It was just us two and the people who captured it on video, it was lovely."

The couple, from 's-Hertogenbosch in the south of the Netherlands, have known each for more than a decade and been together for two years.

They both have Black Sabbath tattoos, and assistant store manager Anton felt Birmingham was the perfect place to propose.

They are hoping to get married around Halloween time, either next year or the year after.
