More than 1,000 jobs are to be secured in Telford after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) pledged not to move one of its key teams out of the area.

Instead, the organisation will relocate from Ironmasters Way in the town to Hall Park Way, less than a mile away.

Daljit Rehal, from HMRC, said it would provide "long-term opportunities" for staff.

It will join other government departments at the Parkside Court site, including HM Land Registry and Natural England.

HMRC, which collects and administers tax on behalf off the government, moved to the Telford Plaza building in 2018, leasing 13 floors.

Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for the Economy on Telford and Wrekin Council, described the decision to stay in the town as "fantastic news".

"This move underscores our borough’s growing reputation as a centre for digital and IT companies and highlights our ability to offer modern, high-quality office accommodation," he said.
