Jo Williams, chief executive of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, says she is looking at ways to improve the situation in car parks

Parking at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital has got to the point where "there will be an accident on that site if we're not careful", it's chief executive has admitted.

Jo Williams, from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, said she would be looking at ways to improve the situation with the help of the local authority.

She made the comments to a meeting of Shropshire's joint health scrutiny committee, where Telford councillor Derek White described hospital parking facilities as "appalling".

"There's parking on the sides, there is parking on any piece of land, it's so crazy," he told the meeting.

"People who have disabilities can't get anywhere near the building."

Last month, the hospital trust said it would carry out a review of parking at the hospital and Mrs Williams told the scrutiny meeting she works at hospital on three days a week and knows the issues.

She apologised for the situation and said she met the chief executive of Telford and Wrekin Council on 1 October, to look at options.

That included looking again at the hospital's park and ride system for staff.

"We agreed that we would look at options that the trust has turned down for whatever reason," she said.
