The Oil Basin Bridge has been closed for "safety reasons"

A footbridge in Worcester has been temporarily closed for "safety reasons", according to the Canal and River Trust.

The Oil Basin Bridge, which goes over the former Diglis dock and basin, will be closed for a minimum of six months.

A trust spokesperson said: "Following a recent inspection, we've unfortunately had to temporarily close Oil Basin Bridge for safety reasons.

"It'll remain closed for a minimum of six months while our charity looks to make repairs, alongside the other projects our staff and volunteers are delivering in the local area to care for our historic canal and river network."

The Canal and River Trust added: "We apologise for any inconvenience while the bridge is closed but safety has to be our main priority.

"We advise people to follow the short diversion route during the closure."
