Same-sex couples register to marry on 29 March

Large parts of new gay marriage laws in England and Wales have come into effect meaning same-sex couples can now register to marry.

The first day that ceremonies can take place is 29 March.

Civil partnership became legal in the United Kingdom in 2004, which allowed same-sex couples to live in legally recognised partnerships.

Simon Clemison has been to meet one couple who will be among the first to get married.
