Relative matches newly discovered WWI soldier DNA

The great nephew of a WWI soldier, whose remains were found in Northern France in 2016, has matched his DNA after an investigation by the Ministry of Defence.

Pte Henry Parker from East Yorkshire lost his life in 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.

Fragments of the soldier’s bones were brought to a government laboratory in Middlesex to be analysed.

Francis Storry from Driffield in East Yorkshire was told his DNA matched that of the soldier's. He said: “I am delighted. We will give him a good send off. I feel proud, really proud.”
