Northampton General Hospital: A&E's new unit 'on build schedule'

A new emergency assessment unit being built at Northampton General Hospital is on schedule to open by the end of the summer, NHS bosses have said.

The 60-bed unit will help staff work out the most appropriate treatment for each patient and the hospital hopes it will ease pressure on emergency waiting times.

The hospital has been seeing about 400 A&E patients a day, up 30% on the same time last year.
