The minute before Mandela died

By BBC Trending
What's popular and why

Nelson Mandela, his life and legacy, has dominated social media conversation since the former president died late on Thursday.

South African President Jacob Zuma formally announced the death at 23:45 local time (21:45 GMT), in a news conference.

But during the 60 seconds leading up to the historic announcement, there was intense speculation and emotion on display on Twitter.

#BBCTrending looks back at that minute online.
