What's popular and why

Hundreds of thousand of Mexicans have gone online to support a sacked journalist.

Carmen Aristegui stood up for her colleagues and she paid the price with her job. But why did so many Mexicans get involved in her case?

The hashtag #EndefensadeAristegui, external ("In defence of Aristegui") has been tweeted more than 1m times. And other related tags have also racked up huge numbers as well.
