Stand-up comedian Nemr may make people laugh across different continents but recently had his own comedy moment when he decided to search for his net worth online.

Nemr Abou Nassar, or "Lebanon's King of Comedy, external," according to Public Radio International, grew up in San Diego, moved back to his family in Lebanon, and has been performing tours in the Middle East, Europe and the US.

Given his success, Nemr, who has 175,000 followers on Twitter, claims he turned to Google to search his net worth.

To his surprise, he says he was offered the profile of a former porn star and tweeted the result, external, adding "I'm winning at life, people, winning."

The tweet included a screenshot from the site networthpost.com, and it is likely Nemr's search for his own name led to the profile of Lebanese compatriot Mia Khalifa - well-known for working in the adult film industry in 2014 - as he is mentioned in her biography there, external.

In 2015 Nemr came to Khalifa's defence on Twitter when she received death threats online, after becoming the most searched-for star on adult movie site PornHub.

Some questioned why the entertainer would search for his net worth in the first place, while others were pleased for him.

Responding to Nemr's confusion with her, she duly responded "Merci ktir, external" - colloquial Lebanese from of 'thank you'.

"I read an article once that said I died in a car crash," she added. "That was still more accurate than what the internet thinks my net worth is."

Khalifa was born in Lebanon and moved to the US when she was seven years old. Currently, she co-hosts an online sports show Out of Bounds and has over two million followers on Twitter. Her YouTube channel, external has attracted 95,000 subscribers.

The latest exchange between the pair on Twitter could bode well for the comedian gaining followers. In September, Mia's appearance on an adult late-night podcast, #AlwaysOpen, increased their views to half a million for the first time.

"Net worth" might not feature in 2017's top Google search terms, but Nemr may inadvertently have attracted a few more online fans.
