Capita profits jump on £1.3bn of new contracts

Capita won a £400m contract to manage the UK military's barracks bases and training grounds

Outsourcing group Capita has said half-year profits grew 16% to £238m after winning major contracts worth £1.3bn.

Capita, which runs services from the Ministry of Defence pension scheme to police radio systems, said like-for-like revenues grew 11%.

The company also said it was on track to deliver full-year revenue growth of at least 8%.

It added that it had bids worth £5.7bn in the pipeline, its highest level to date.

It said that on average it was winning more than two out of every three contacts that it bid for.

Among its successful bids was a £400m, 10-year contract to manage the UK government's military estates of 4,000 separate sites worldwide, including barracks, bases, and military training grounds.

It also signed a £325m framework contract to deliver the Scottish Wide Area Network, a single public services network linking more than 4,600 sites including schools, hospitals, GP surgeries, pharmacists and local council offices.
