The annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, attracts business and government leaders from all over the globe. Here are some of the highlights:

The summit has been running since 1971 when 400 business leaders were invited to the Swiss ski resort

Ahead of the meeting, an Oxfam report that the richest 1% would soon be wealthier than the rest of the world made headlines everywhere

The forum's founder and organiser Klaus Schwab told delegates that, "we are here to be passionate and to show our compassion".

One thing about Davos - there's a lot of queuing and security to get through if you want to attend any of the talks.

Politics always plays its part, too. On Wednesday Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko asked IMF head Christine Lagarde for more financial assistance for his country.

With an an uncertain economic outlook affecting many countries. China's Premier Li Keqiang said he would push ahead with reforms to boost his country's growth prospects.

Al Gore announced a ``Live Earth'' concert on seven continents to back a UN climate pact in Paris later this year...

...the former US vice president is working with US singer Pharrell Williams - who says he hopes to have a billion voices demanding "climate action now".

Kings and queens also come along. Belgium's King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were among those at the opening session.

And where would Davos be without snowmen? In this case 193 with national flags. The group Action 2015 wants to highlight the need for the world's richest to do more about poverty, growing inequality and climate change.
