Graphic accounts of the Somme revealed

The Imperial War Museum has revealed more than 500 first-hand accounts of the Battle of the Somme in 1916, most of which were previously unseen.

Among the accounts are the experiences of George Rudge - who had told his family little about his involvement in the Somme, aged only 17.

But the museum contacted his descendants and his grandson George Ward was able to read his grandfather's account of fighting on the first day of the Somme.
