Labour retain control of St Helens Council
17 of St Helens Council's 48 seats were up for election in 2021. While Labour successfully defended 12 of its seats, independent candidate Kate Stevenson took the Rainhill seat previously held by ex-Labour council leader Barrie Grunewald, Paul Hooton gained Haydock for the Green Party, and independent Terry Maguire took one of Earlestown's two seats.
Elections for the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region and the also took place.
