Fiona Phillips is making a comeback to GMTV after quitting the breakfast television show in 2008.

Phillips, who co-hosted the programme for 15 years, is returning as a holiday stand-in for Lorraine Kelly.

She said: "I'm really excited to be going back to see my old mates and the viewers again," adding she had spent a third of her life on the GMTV sofa.

The 49-year-old will spend two weeks hosting Kelly's show, who will return as part of ITV's new Daybreak show.

In September, former One Show presenters Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles take the helm of the new breakfast programme.

Phillips, who began on GMTV in 1993 as the show's entertainment correspondent, will kick off her stint on Monday.

Former Spice Girl Emma Bunton and TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher have also been lined up to cover Kelly's holiday absence and the final shows under the GMTV banner.

Phillips made her final tearful appearance on the station in December 2008 and left to spend more time with her family.

She told viewers at the time that it was "one of the hardest decisions I've ever made".
