Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has landed a starring role in Shrek the Musical, which is coming to London's West End next year.

The 39-year-old actress will play the green-faced ogre Princess Fiona - the part which was voiced by Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz in the hit films.

Comedian Richard Blackwood has been cast as Shrek's sidekick Donkey in the production.

The show is based on the story of Oscar-winning animated movie Shrek.

Holden has previously appeared in several West End musicals.

She was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for best actress in a musical for the title role of Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2003.

The movies - which star Mike Myers as the voice of Shrek - has spawned three sequels.

The story follows the story of an ogre, who has various adventures with his friend the Donkey and his long interest Princess Fiona.

The musical version had a successful run on New York's Broadway, which featured original songs and The Monkees' classic I'm A Believer.

It was nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning Tim Hatley the prize for best costume design for a musical.
