Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has written a theme tune for a new Channel 4 sitcom.

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret stars David Cross as an American office temp who manages to bluff his way into a senior role.

Marr has been a member of both US band Modest Mouse and The Cribs in recent years.

It is his first TV composition but he did write some of the soundtrack to hit film Inception.

The song he has written for the show is titled Life Is Sweet.

The musician has also composed the incidental music.

The sitcom descends into farce as Cross's character wreaks havoc in the city of London.

The six-episode series will begin on Channel 4 on 1 October. It was piloted in November last year.

Marr formed The Smiths in Manchester in 1982 at the age of 18.

Following the break-up of the band five years later, Marr collaborated with many musicians including the late Kirsty McColl, Billy Bragg, The Pretenders and New Order.
