Susan Boyle became an overnight star after appearing on Britain's Got Talent

Former Britain's Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle has topped the UK album charts with her second album, The Gift.

The Scottish singer entered the record books with her debut record I Dreamed A Dream, which was the fastest selling album by a UK female.

The record also had the most successful first week's sales of a UK debut album, shifting 411,820 copies.

In the singles chart, US pop star Rihanna retained her number one slot with Only Girl (In The World).

The singer held off competition from Take That, who went straight to number two with their new single - which features Robbie Williams - The Flood.

The only other new release in this week's top 10 was McFly's Shine A Light.

The track, which features Taio Cruz, debuted in fourth place.

Boyle, who shot to worldwide fame after appearing in front of Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan on the ITV talent show, knocked Cheryl Cole off the top spot.

The X Factor judge secured the number one spot last week with Messy Little Raindrops.

Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits was a non-mover this week in second place.

James Blunt's latest record, Some Kind Of Trouble, went to number four, followed by Michael Buble's Crazy Love.

Come Around Sundown by Kings Of Leon fell two places this week to number six and Rumer's Season's Of My Soul went from third place to seventh.

Rod Stewart, Katy Perry and Cee Lo Green were at number eight, nine and 10 respectively.
