Black Eyed Peas beat Willow Smith to UK number one

The Black Eyed Peas have beaten Willow Smith to the top of the chart, scoring their fifth UK number one single.

The band's song The Time (Dirty Bit) climbed from sixth place, pipping the 10-year-old daughter of film star Will Smith to pole position.

But Smith's song Whip My Hair entered at number two, making her one of the youngest artists to score a UK top 10 hit, the Official Charts Company said.

Take That remained at number one in the album chart for a fourth week.

The band's record Progress sold 200,000 copies in the last seven days, a 15% increase on the previous week, according to the OCC.

It has shifted more than one million copies since its release and has become the biggest-selling album of the year so far, displacing Lady Gaga's The Fame.

Willow Smith reached number 11 in the US chart with her song

Michael Buble and Olly Murs are in second and third place with their collections, both selling in excess of 100,000 copies during the past week.

Elsewhere, former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke saw the "deluxe" reissue of her debut album Overcome enter the chart at 22.

Back in the singles chart, Michael Jackson's posthumous release Hold My Hand, featuring Akon, failed to break the top 10 in its initial week of release, landing at 11.

It was the only new entry on the chart along with Willow Smith, who is signed to rapper Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.
