Naomie Harris joins Danny Boyle's Frankenstein cast

Harris had a lead role this week in BBC One drama Accused

Actress Naomie Harris has joined the cast of Danny Boyle's stage version of Frankenstein, opening at the National Theatre in London in the New Year.

The 34-year-old will play an orphan called Elizabeth Lavenza in the play, which runs from 5 February.

The show will see Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch alternate the lead roles of Frankenstein and the Monster with Trainspotting actor Jonny Lee Miller.

Harris previously appeared in Boyle's 2002 horror film 28 Days Later.

She also featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and was seen on Monday in BBC One drama Accused.

Based on Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein has been adapted by Nick Dear and will feature music by dance group Underworld.

It marks Boyle's first engagement at the National and his return to theatre following such films as the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire and the upcoming 127 Hours.

Speaking at the Evening Standard Theatre awards in London last month, Cumberbatch told the BBC the show would have "a lot of thrills and spills".

"I imagine the box office pull of Danny Boyle and the story itself - and maybe Jonny and myself - is going to mean ticket sales will be quite high," he added.
