Rachel Burden is to join Nicky Campbell on BBC Radio 5 live's breakfast show from May.

The weekend breakfast show co-host replaces Shelagh Fogarty, who is moving to lunchtimes after seven years.

"Shelagh is the mother of all breakfast broadcasters and I can only hope to match the impression that she's made," said Burden.

Station controller Adrian Van Klaveren said she would be a "wonderful addition to the breakfast team".

"Rachel's a great broadcaster, a great journalist and a great friend," added Campbell. "It's going to be great."

Burden, who began her radio career as a reporter on BBC Radio Suffolk, joined the weekend breakfast team on 5 live in 2003.
