Adele's album 21 was lagging behind at the midweek stage

Adele has claimed a further week at the top of the album chart, despite a close battle with veteran musician Kate Bush.

Bush's release Director's Cut, a reworking of songs from previous albums, had been in pole position in the midweek chart.

Rapper Pitbull topped the singles chart with Give me Everything.

Lady Gaga amassed four singles inside the top 20, the most for a female solo artist since Ruby Murray in 1955, said the Official Charts Company.

The Edge of Glory stayed at six, Judas clambered to eighth place, while Hair entered the chart at 13 and the title track to Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, moved up eight slots to 16.

The other artists to have achieved four simultaneous top 20 singles are Frankie Laine and John Lennon.

Only Michael Jackson has had five singles in the top 20, which happened after his death in 2009.

Kate Bush, whose career has spanned more than 30 years, has now had 10 albums inside the top 10.

Her last chart-topper was The Whole Story in 1986.

Adele, meanwhile, still held the number three spot with her debut album, 19.

Her current chart-topper held the number one spot for a record-breaking 11 weeks, but was knocked off by the Foo Fighters last month. It returned to the top spot the following week and has remained there since.
