London Film Festival to begin with Anthony Hopkins film

Hopkins is part of a large ensemble cast in the globe-trotting drama

This year's London Film Festival will open with 360, the latest movie from Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles.

Jude Law, Rachel Weisz and Sir Anthony Hopkins star in what is described as "a modern and stylish kaleidoscope of interconnected love and relationships".

Written by Peter Morgan and loosely based on Arthur Schnitzler's play La Ronde, the ensemble drama is partly set in Vienna, Paris, Denver and London.

The 55th BFI London Film Festival runs from 12 to 27 October.

Meirelles, who previously launched the festival in 2005 with The Constant Gardener, said he was "very honoured" to do so again.

360, the City of God director continued, was "an intimate film that talks about our options in life".

The movie will have its European premiere at London following its first screening next month at the Toronto Film Festival.

The full London programme will be unveiled on 7 September. The closing night film will be announced later this week.
