London 2012: BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend artists
Leona Lewis is among the top names confirmed for BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend this summer.
The event, featuring international artist Will.i.am, will take place on 23 and 24 June with 100,000 free tickets available. Half of the tickets will go to Hackney residents and their guests and another 15% to residents (and guests) of the five designated Olympic boroughs.
Jessie J is another performer confirmed for the event at Hackney Marshes. The location was chosen due to its close proximity to the Olympic Park where the Games will start on 27 July.
Local boy Professor Green said: "Hackney is a great place, so events like this and the Olympics will help showcase the borough in a positive light."
The event, more than double the capacity of Radio 1's previous Big Weekends, will feature six stages of music where artists, including Tinie Tempah, will perform.
The BBC Sound of 2012 winner was soul singer Michael Kiwanuka and he is one of more than 25 acts confirmed on the bill.
Hackney Weekend will be special for Ed Sheeran as it marks the one year anniversary of his full commercial breakthrough.
Hackney Marshes is used for local sport but will be transformed for the star studded weekend. More artists will be confirmed over the coming months.
