Brits boost chart sales for Adele and Ed Sheeran

Adele and Ed Sheeran both walked away with Brit Awards each at the ceremony

The Brit Awards helped boost record sales for Adele and Ed Sheeran in this week's UK albums chart.

Adele's 21, which was named best British album of the year, has returned to the top of the chart, with her debut album 19 in seventh place.

Sheeran, who walked away with two Brits, climbed two places to number three with his album +.

International breakthrough winner Lana Del Rey and critics choice winner Emeli Sande were also in the top five.

Sande's album, Our Version Of Events, fell one place to number two this week and Del Rey was in fourth position with Born To Die.

Making Mirrors by Gotye rounded off the top five.

In the singles chart, Gotye took back the number one slot after slipping to number three last week with his track, Somebody That I Used To Know.

The only new release in this week's top 10 was Gym Class Heroes, featuring Neon Hitch and the track Ass Back Home.

Coldplay, who were named the best British group for the third time at Tuesday's awards ceremony, re-entered the top 10 with their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which climbed from 11 to six.

At number eight was Maverick Sabre's Lonely Are The Brave, followed by Florence And The Machine in ninth place. Jessie J's record Who You Are was tenth.

Britpop band Blur, who scooped the outstanding contribution to music prize, re-entered the charts at number 22 with their Best Of album.

The group, fronted by Damon Albarn, closed the Brits ceremony with a medley of their most well known hits.
