Oscars 2012: Stars arrive

Stars of the silver screen are walking down the red carpet for the 2012 Oscars. This is Berenice Bejo, best supporting actress nominee for her role in The Artist, and her husband Michel Hazanavicius, a best director nominee for the same film.

Actress Glenn Close, a best actress nominee for Albert Nobbs, is wearing a midnight green Zac Posen dress with matching tuxedo jacket.

Viola Davis is nominated for best actress for her role in The Help. She wore a simple, emerald Vera Wang dress and - unusually for her - decided not to wear a wig to the event.

Michelle Williams, star of My Week With Marilyn, is also up for best actress. She is wearing a red Louis Vuitton dress with peplum detail.

Jessica Chastain, best supporting actress nominee for her role in The Help, wearing a dress by McQueen.

Best actor nominee Jean Dujardin, his film The Artist is nominated for 10 Oscars.

Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen arrived dressed in character for his new movie The Dictator. He later tipped his urn over the red carpet and E! television host Ryan Seacrest.

Mother Dolores Hart is the subject of God Is Bigger Than Elvis, which received a nod for documentary short. A former Hollywood actress, who once starred in films like Where The Boys Are, King Creole and Loving You, she hasn't been to the Oscars since 1959.

This is Gary Oldman's first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of George Smiley in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara makes a break from her regular black dresses with this Givenchy gown. She is nominated for best actress.

Jonah Hill is up for best supporting actor for his role opposite Brad Pitt in Moneyball.

Pharrell Williams, along with Hans Zimmerman is in charge of the Oscars music, is chatting to Bridesmaid actress Maya Rudolph.

George Clooney, who is up for best actor in The Descendants and best adapted screenplay for The Ides Of March, arrived with his girlfriend Stacy Kiebler.
