Jack White has scored his first number one album in the US with his debut solo record, Blunderbuss.
The album sold 138,000 copies in its first week, bumping Lionel Richie from the top of the Billboard chart.
It is the first time the musician has hit the top spot, after missing out with previous bands The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
His previous best was in 2007, when The White Stripes album Icky Thump debuted at two.
Blunderbuss has also topped the charts in the UK this week, as well as Canada and Switzerland.
Meanwhile Adele continues to hold firm in the US, moving up one place from three to two, after shifting another 84,000 copies of her second album, 21.
The record has now sold 3.1 million copies this year - the best selling album of 2012 so far - and 8.9 million overall.
British boyband One Direction's debut album, Up All Night, rose one place from five to four, bringing its total sales to 541,000 and making it the fifth best-selling album of the year.
British success continues with The Wanted, whose self-titled US debut entered the chart at seven.
The album - released only in North America - is a compilation of singles from the group's two previous studio albums, along with two newly-recorded songs.
