Moyles announces last day on Radio 1 breakfast show

DJ Chris Moyles has confirmed the date of his final Radio 1 breakfast show.

The 38-year-old will bow out on 14 September but said his "goodbye party show" would take place the day before.

In July Moyles told listeners he was leaving his radio show after eight-and-a-half years. Nick Grimshaw was later confirmed as his successor.

Moyles made the announcement on his programme, telling listeners he had had "the best time of his life" doing the job he had always dreamed of having.

The former Capital host became Radio 1's longest-serving breakfast presenter in September 2009, breaking a record previously set by Tony Blackburn.

He will present another programme on the station after he leaves, details of which are not yet known.

He is due to play the role of Herod in a UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Jesus Christ Superstar, starting in September.

The star also presents the Chris Moyles' Quiz Night, now in its fifth series on Channel 4, and has written two autobiographies.

The Chris Moyles show has 7.1 million listeners according to latest Rajar figures. This time last year it had an audience of 7.52 million.
