Williams enjoyed a chart double in 2001

Robbie Williams has topped the UK singles and album charts with his song Candy and aptly titled album Take The Crown.

Williams enjoyed a similar feat in 2001 when his single Something Stupid hit the top spot during the seven-week reign of his easy listening covers album Swing When You're Winning.

Williams said last weekend: "So chuffed... Good work Team Williams."

Last week, it was reported that Radio 1 had dropped Williams from its playlist.

A spokesperson for Radio 1 said: "We playlist songs that are relevant to our young audience."

However, new breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw told Channel 5 news "I don't know if he's now for a Radio 1 audience.

"To 13 and 14-year-olds, he's not relevant."

The last artist to secure the official charts double was Rihanna, who held the top spot on both the singles and albums chart in November last year with We Found Love and Talk That Talk.

Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande are spending a second week at number two with Beneath Your Beautiful.

The Wanted have scored their seventh top three with I Found You

Former X Factor star Misha B has scored her first top 10 hit with Do You Think Of Me.

Gabrielle Aplin's cover version of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's The Power Of Love has entered at number 36 after just over 24 hours on sale - it features in the new John Lewis Christmas ad campaign.

On the album chart, Williams outsold Dutch violinist Andre Rieu and his collection of film scores Magic Of The Movies - which came in at number two

Evolution, the fourth album from JLS took the third spot, ahead of last week's number one Calvin Harris.

Other new entries include opera singer Andre Bocelli with his Christmas collection Opera at number 10 and The Difficult Second Album, by former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, which came in at number 13.
