Morrissey is planning to resume his tour on 9 February in Las Vegas

Former Smiths singer Morrissey has postponed six US concerts due to a bleeding ulcer.

The singer checked into hospital in Detroit on Friday. It is not known whether he has since been discharged.

The postponements came after he called off three shows last week due to "band illness".

"Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his spokesperson said.

The star has postponed concerts in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

The 53-year-old singer, who led revered Manchester indie band The Smiths in the 1980s, plans to resume his tour on 9 February in Las Vegas.

He recently revealed that he had refused an offer to reform the group for the Coachella festival, to take place in California in April.
