The British Museum is showcasing a major exhibition about the people who lived in the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD79, showering volcanic ash on to the two cities on Italy's southern coast. Many clues about the lives and deaths of thousands of people were preserved.

Arts Editor Will Gompertz reports.
