John Newman earns debut chart topper

British soul singer John Newman has landed his first UK number one single with his debut track Love Me Again.

Newman, who performed at Glastonbury last week, ended Swedish duo Icona Pop's reign at the top of the charts after just one week.

Their song, I Love It, fell to number three, while previous chart topper Robin Thicke held on to second place with Blurred Lines.

In the album chart, Mumford & Sons reclaimed the top spot with Babel.

Their second record previously spent two weeks at number one in October 2012.

The folk group have enjoyed a spike in sales since performing at Glastonbury last weekend, featuring at number 12 in the album chart with Sigh No More, while I Will Wait returned to the top 40 singles chart.

The Rolling Stones and Arctic Monkeys have also seen a marked rise in album sales since Glastonbury, while the xx moved up this week's album chart from number 96 to 39 with their record, Coexist.

Elsewhere in the Official chart, Tom Odell was knocked into third place with his chart-topping debut album, Long Way Down, while Michael Buble moved up to second place.

Rock band Editors went straight in at number six with their fourth album, The Weight Of Your Love.

Two new entries made the top 20 singles chart - Britain's Got Talent finalist Gabrielle Gardiner, known as Gabz was placed sixth with her track Lighters (The One), while girl band The Saturday's managed number 14 with Gentleman.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old musician has topped the classic album charts with covers of pop hits made famous by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Lithuania's Got Talent winner Martynas Levickis has become the first accordionist to have a number one in the classical charts.
