JLS star Marvin Humes to co-host The Voice

Humes is replacing Reggie Yates for the third series of the BBC One show

JLS star Marvin Humes is to co-host the BBC One talent show The Voice when it returns for a third series in January.

He will join Big Brother host Emma Willis following the departure of Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates earlier this week.

"I'm so excited to be a part of the new series," said Humes, adding that he has always been a "big fan" of the show.

The Voice will return to BBC One in January 2014 with Sir Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue and will.i.am as coaches.

Humes, whose band JLS are splitting up in the coming months following a farewell tour, recently presented an episode of This Morning with his wife Rochelle, of girl group The Saturdays.

The singer also presents his own radio show on Capital FM on Friday and Saturday evenings.

"I have always been a big fan of [The Voice] and love that musicians are given such a great opportunity to reach such a wide audience," he said.

"I'm thrilled to be working alongside Emma and be a part of a new team on The Voice. It's going to be even bigger and better with this new series. I can't wait to start."

Mark Linsey, BBC controller of entertainment commissioning, said: "It's great to have Marvin on board and I think he and Emma will work really well together. He is perfectly placed to encourage the acts throughout the competition."

JLS rose to fame following their appearance on The X Factor in 2008, finishing second to Alexandra Burke.

They announced their split in April, after releasing five number one singles and four studio albums.

Humes takes over from Yates who has hosted The Voice along with Willoughby since the show began in March 2012.

The second series suffered a fall in ratings, despite several changes to the show's format designed to make it more appealing.

Audiences dropped from an average 9.21 million in 2012, to 7.65 million in 2013 against competition from Britain's Got Talent on ITV.

However the final, in which Andrea Begley was crowned the winner, outperformed the first series, with 7.95 million people tuning in.
