Kaiser Chiefs star Ricky Wilson joins The Voice

The Kaiser Chiefs have scored four top 10 albums

Ricky Wilson, singer with the Kaiser Chiefs, has joined BBC talent show The Voice, completing the 2014 line-up.

A three-time Brit winner, his band is known for songs such as I Predict A Riot, Oh My God and Ruby.

He joins new signing Kylie Minogue and returning stars Tom Jones and will.i.am on the judging panel when the show returns to BBC One next January.

"Who doesn't want to spend their Saturday night with Kylie Minogue?" said Wilson in a statement.

"I spent last winter yelling at The Voice, and both Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am were total superstars.

"I'm just lucky the Kaiser Chiefs have rubber stamped my temporary loan!"

The singer is renowned for his extravagant stage stunts, and ripped tendons in his foot in 2005 after attempting an ill-advised "scissor kick".

The star should be able to coach contestants on stagecraft

"Ricky is one of the UK music scene's great frontmen," said the BBC's Mark Linsey.

"He knows all about performance and will complement the rest of the coaching line-up perfectly."

New schedule

The Voice, in which coaches must rate singers without seeing them, has had a major shake-up as it heads to its third series.

Former judges Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue both left, as did presenters Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates.

The programme had suffered falling ratings in its second year in the face of stiff competition from Britain's Got Talent.

However, it recovered in time for the live final, when 7.95 million viewers tuned in to see Andrea Begley crowned the winner - up slightly from the 7.82 million who watched the 2012 final.

The talent show will return next year with JLS singer Marvin Humes and Big Brother presenter Emma Willis as hosts.

It has been moved up the schedules to January, meaning it will no longer go up against ITV's show Britain's Got Talent.

The BBC said the decision to bring the show forward was "in the best interests of viewers".
