Comedian and sitcom star Miranda Hart, King's Speech director Tom Hooper and Blur bassist Alex James are among the new entries in Who's Who 2014.

The Royal Ballet's principal dancer Lauren Cuthbertson and violinist Nicola Benedetti - this year's youngest entry at 26 - are also included.

The famous reference book will also include actor Matthew Macfadyen and Turner Prize winner Elizabeth Price.

Children's laureate Malorie Blackman also makes the cut.

BBC news presenter Jane Hill, Sun editor David Dinsmore and photographer Mary McCartney are also new entries in the latest edition.

Who's Who includes autobiographical information on more than 33,000 influential people from a wide variety of professions.

'Changing face'

There are more than 1,000 new entries for the 2014 edition.

Chairman of the Imperial War Museums, Sir Francis Richards, has written the foreword, reflecting on the "changing face of British society" since World War One.

Each person included in Who's Who supplies the original information for their entry and is then sent an annual proof for updating.

The majority of Who's Who entrants are included in recognition of the distinction they have attained in their professional lives, and the influence they exert on British society.

Most entrants are British but some notable individuals from across the world are included due to their presence and importance in British and international life.

Richard Fitzwilliams, who used to edit the international edition of Who's Who, told BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday that "Churchill rushed [through] wartime supplies of paper to keep it [Who's Who] going through World War II because he believed it was essential and a fascinating guide to British life".
