London Grammar lead independent music awards

London Grammar head the nominations for the Association of Independent Music (Aim) awards, with nods in four categories.

The three piece are in the running for best album, best indie breakthrough, live act and track of the year for their hit single, Strong.

Sheffield rockers Arctic Monkeys, Bonobo and FKA Twigs are among six other acts with multiple nominations.

The winners will be disclosed at a ceremony in London on 2 September.

A total of 10 acts are nominated for the chief prize of independent album of the year, including the Arctics for AM, Kate Tempest for Everybody Down, and American Interior by Gruff Rhys.

Among the shortlisted acts for "best difficult second album" are musician Ben Watt, best known for his work during 1980s and 90s as one half the duo Everything But The Girl.

Other categories to be unveiled on the night include an award for the most played new independent artist and an outstanding contribution to music prize.

A pioneer award will also be awarded to Martin Mills of the Beggars music group - which represents artists including Adele, PJ Harvey and MIA - while the prize for the best small music label will be announced on the night.

Last year US rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis walked off with two trophies, and were the only act to win more than one award.

The Aim awards are designed to honour and reward acts and record companies operating outside of the major label system.
