Tweeting in character is a first for Himesh Patel who plays Tamwar

EastEnders' character Tamwar, played by actor Himesh Patel, will be live tweeting throughout the soap's 30th anniversary celebrations this week.

In a first for a UK soap, he will tweet during special live elements of each show and Friday's fully live episode.

The mystery of who killed Lucy Beale will finally be solved this week during Thursday night's episode.

Tanwar's views will be posted on the official EastEnders Twitter, external feed and Facebook, external page as the drama unfolds.

"Tweeting in character is a first for me," says Patel, "but I think I know Tamwar well enough and I'm looking forward to giving the world his unique perspective on things as they unfold."

EastEnders will also become the first BBC television programme to stream exclusive, live Facebook Q&A webcasts, which will be broadcast from Elstree studios after tonight and Thursday's episodes.

The live elements of this week's special episodes kick off on BBC One this evening at 19:30 GMT.

EastEnders revealed on Twitter, external that tonight's instalment would feature Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, and Peggy Mitchell, played by Barbara Windsor, as she returns to the Queen Vic pub for a special appearance.
