Celebrations began in Stratford-upon-Avon with a procession of people in costume.

Crowds lined the streets wearing William Shakespeare masks.

A floral tribute to William Shakespeare was seen on display during the parade in the town.

Some people opted for a Shakespearean costume.

Others raised a glass to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death.

Earlier, US President Barack Obama visited Shakespeare's Globe in London on the second day of his UK tour.

The president met actors following a performance of some of the scenes from Hamlet.

Mr Obama later said the visit was a "good way to start Saturday morning".

The scenes Mr Obama watched were performed by actors from a company of 16, who embarked on a two-year world tour, entitled Globe To Globe, in 2014, playing to more than 100,000 people in 197 countries.
