Photo booth revival: a box, a seat, a curtain and you

Photo booths have provided a unique private space in the public environment since the very first one appeared in New York City in 1925. The early machines were popular because they were cheap and provided a way of obtaining a neutral formal portrait as well as an opportunity for free expression.

Yet today despite the proliferation of image-making devices the chemical photo booth is coming back into fashion with the support of enthusiasts such as Camille Pachot, Philippe Starck's new look digital model and events such as the 2012 International Photobooth Convention in California on 18-19 May 2012.
