Regular readers will know I'm a fan of street photography and so when Dario Cestaro sent me some of his work I was only too happy to agree to present it to our audience.

Cestaro, 32, was born in Italy but in recent years has kept moving and is currently a photographer aboard a cruise ship on the Mediterranean. Before that he spent some time in London where these pictures were taken. Here are his thoughts on street photography.

"I lived in many places but never stayed more than a year," he says. "London comes to mind constantly but it was a problem of light. I worked as a night receptionist so that during the day I'd be free, as daylight is very precious to a photographer. But winter came, and the mere seven hours of light that London offers were too brief to make this the city of my choice. So I left.

"The truth is that I needed to continue travelling to become a photographer and to make that my source of income.

"Many people want to be guided but for me life is street photography. You see a background, you envision the uniqueness of it, you look around and hope that at least a man with a parrot on his shoulder is one minute away, but then you see twins wearing identical pink hats and only five seconds away from you.

"You need attention and dedication, you need to know how to look and decipher different signals.

"Live the present and if you miss that moment just turn around the corner and look forward. Otherwise you risk waiting forever."

Here are some of Dario Cestaro's pictures.
