The aim of the mass-participation game is to score a "goal" by aiming the ball at millstones which are at opposite ends of the town - about three miles apart. The game, which has very few rules, is played over two eight-hour periods on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

Orphan elephant calves are fed a special formula by their keepers at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, in Kenya. The community-owned and run elephant sanctuary gives care to abandoned or orphaned elephant calves due for release back to the wild as they approach the age of four. The sanctuary also benefits the local Samburu people who are seen as an expanding community-driven grassroots conservation movement in northern Kenya.
