A new species of giant water lily has been discovered by scientists. The huge plant had been in the archives of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and was growing in a number of aquatic collections but it was previously mistakenly identified as another species.

More than a million people took part in the 50th anniversary of the UK's first Pride parade in central London. Hundreds of LGBTQ+ community groups attended the march, which saw the streets of London, from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Palace, filled with a riot of noise and colour.

Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces his resignation outside 10 Downing Street in London. After less than three years in office, the controversial Conservative leader stepped down, following a string of resignations by government personnel, including key cabinet ministers, over his leadership.

In South Africa, a mass funeral was held for a group of 21 young people, mostly teenagers, who died in mysterious circumstances at a bar last month. Empty coffins were laid out before thousands of mourners - including South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa - in East London, a city in Eastern Cape Province.

Flowers are laid near the Field's shopping centre in Copenhagen, Denmark, after a gunman opened fire at the mall. A 22-year-old man suspected of killing three people has been charged with murder. Two Danish citizens, both aged 17, and a 47-year-old Russian citizen, were killed in Sunday's attack.

Japan's former prime minister Shinzo Abe has died in hospital after he was shot at a political campaign event. Security officials tackled the gunman at the scene following the assasination. The 41-year-old suspect named as Tetsuya Yamagami, admitted shooting Abe with a homemade gun.
